Future Search is a large group process developed by Marvin Weisbord and Sandra Janoff as a way of bringing the “whole system” into the room to find common ground and plan their future. It enables large groups of diverse stakeholders in an organization to collaborate on designing their desired future and begin planning how to achieve it. Facilitating a Future Search Conference is an exhilarating experience but it can be fraught with unexpected challenges. If you have facilitated a Future Search Conference, or if you have thought about facilitating one, you will want to come and hear several ACCORD members, Karon West, Diane Abbey Livingston, Jo Ellen Logan and Monica Olsen discuss the Future Search process and the lessons they’ve learned the “hard way.”

Presenters
Jo Ellen Logan Jo Ellen Logan has 20 years of professional experience in group and conference facilitation and organizational consulting.Her career has included management and consulting experience in both the public and private sectors.Her company, Working Solutions, provides consulting, facilitation, training and conflict resolution services.Jo Ellen has a Master’s Degree in Adult Education from the University of Toronto and a Certificate in Alternative Dispute Resolution from the University of Windsor.She also teaches at Ryerson University in the Training and Development Certificate program.
Monica Olsen Monica Olsen has 21 years of experience as both an internal and external consultant in organization development in both the private and public sectors.Her company, Olsen and Associates Consulting Inc. provides facilitation, training and leadership development services.Monica has a Master’s degree in Human Resource Development from University Associates and has been a longstanding faculty member of the Physician Manager Institute Program with the Canadian Medical Association.
Karon West Karon West is the president of West Consulting Group (WCG), a strategy and organization development firm dedicated to organization planning, performance, and people development. WCG helps organizations turn strategy into reality by aligning work and culture, leadership and people, process and practices. Karon has worked in international and cross-cultural settings and has extensive experience working with community-based organizations that have a focus on supporting social and community change. She has a Master’s Degree in Environmental Studies from York University and is an annual speaker to the MBA students in the Schulich School of Business, York University.
Diane Abbey Livingston Diane Abbey Livingston is the President of Diane Abbey Livingston and Associates Inc., an organizational development firm specializing in the design and facilitation of processes through whichpeople develop skills and engage in meaningful conversations about issues that matter to them and their organizations.Clients in profit and non-profit sectors use the services for strategic and operational planning, stakeholder engagement, enhancing team performance and culture-strategy alignment.Diane is an author of several how-to books and an adjunct faculty associate at the University of Toronto, Ontario Institute for Studies in Education.
